Thread: Suction cup testing

    Default Suction cup testing

    HV20 + Raynox HD6600 vs Sony Cybershot
Filmtools 3025 Gripper, normal and extreme driving conditions...

HV20 did surprisingly well in normal driving conditions 30-40mph, considering stiff suspension and not the smoothest road.

That's about the same type of results I got using the slightly larger version of the 3025. I had to laugh because about 02:05 in, it looks like a cat is making a beeline for your car. Perhaps to attack the Sony. Did you use a UV filter or was it bare bones camera lens on the open road?

Edit: Hard to discern what that creature is(I'm from Hawai'i btw) but it looks like a beaver or a platypus? I know it won't really make much of a difference but it looks like you were driving faster with the HV20 than with the Sony.

Raynox was exposed, didn't think I was going to get really into the testing...
It was a beaver, his lack of speed saved his life, I zoomed right past by, top of second gear, ~60mph can't even tell because the video is so smooth...

lol, I thought it looked like a beaver. Red beaver? Not sure if it'll make much of a difference but did you experiment with the OIS(Optical Image Stabilization) on/off? I've got a few friends that drift back home and I had hoped to get some stuff of a friend who takes his go-kart on the streets(crazy), but I have to admit it's disappointing how the vibration wrecks havoc with the HV20/30. I do have an older Sony HCR-40 that I might experiment with being that if we crash, I won't cry as much over the loss of the camera.

Edit: Perhaps beavers do not like Sony's, even when they are mounted on moving vehicles, and will attack on sight. I'd recommend looking into at least getting a filter for the Raynox.

    lol...
that exactly why I bought the suction cup, to shoot drifting videos, now I need another cam corder that shoots video that would mix with hv20 footage and eliminate the shakiness. Could be one of those Sony HC96 or pana GS500, but I will do more research...

I know beavers have flat tails, perhaps he was trying to match the rest of his outfit by being flattened himself.

Have you taken a look at this?

Yeah it's $240 and there's no guarantee that it'll make a difference, but at the very least it'll further guarantee the camera doesn't go off into orbit(Filmtools claims no one has lost a camera yet).

I'm not worried about loosing a camera, since crashes happen.

Well, I guess when you put it that way and can afford to pump several k into a 240, what's a $600 camera?

Nope not my 240, and no I can't afford buying $600 for every event or crash... The plan is to have 3 cameras shooting, 1 inside mounted to the cage(cybershot) one mounted with suction cup outside, and hv20 shooting overall footage, so it will be on multiple cars, during multiple events so I don't even think about it, going with a camera in 200-400 range with decent quality, I don't have to worry about

I've always been a fan of gratuitous "beaver shot"
