Thread: New Small Cam Stabilizer

  1. #1

    Default New Small Cam Stabilizer

Just found out this new small cam stabilizer:

    http://www.b-hague.co.uk/Camcorder%2...zer%20HCS3.htm

Check out the footage also, smooth enough.. for such a small price. I'm wondering if I can use it for my HV20 + Raynox 0.3 Semi Fisheye 3032 ...

Looks interesting. Where is the link for the footage? I can't find it on that page.
    ZR930, Vegas Pro 8, Pro Tools 8, M-Audio 410, SoundForge 7, Fender guitars/amps, Martin acoustics.

The web site says "up to 0.8 Kg" - that's 1.75 lb (US). My HV20 with the WD-H43 lens and inserted tape is 2 lb 3 oz. So, will that really make a difference? Then add on an external mic -- will it cause a problem? I don't know. I imagine you can go out of spec a little, but how much?

Remove all lenses and mic and it probably works great.

I would think you could just add a little weight to the bottom, as long as the counterbalance is OK. At some point too much weight on top might affect the smoothness of the gimballing, but I would expect that you could go a pound over spec or so...wild-assed guess....

If you compare it to the merlin. I wouldn't add more weight than they recomend. I've tried over loading the Merlin. It doesn't turn out so good. You could add weight. But if you're going to do that. Why not go for the next step up, something that supports your wieght.

wow that is cheap for a merlin rip off.

I am tempted to try one just becase its a lot smaller and looks easier to set up / use than the glidecam 2000 pro

It lists the HV20 as one of the camcorders it supports. It's a little hard to discern for sure but it appears to me the bottom has a place to screw on a weight and also to slip it up & down the curv for balance.

I don't understand the money exchange. How much is this item in US dollars?

Thanks. yeah I emailed them also. In their reply I believe they quoted me $97.00 (around there or so...the letter is at work) and I believe that included shipping to US....now that is cheap. Looking at the demonstration videos I really don't see how one can go wrong with this unit....as long as it's not overloaded. And yes ...there is a place to put weights on the end.

I just ordered one. They don't say how long it will take to reach the US, but I'll post my report when it gets here.

Including shipping, it came to 77.60 pounds, or $155.20 at the current exchange rate, which is still dirt cheap compared to anything else I've found.

Edit: just received an e-mail from them saying that it will take 3-10 days to arrive.

Sorry for the misquote...but yes it's around $155.22.

IMHO...at this point I am more inclined to believe you asre paying for a name when it comes to the manfroto modosteady. It might be a high quality product and does exactly what it claims to do....but I personally never usderstood why something so simple has to be so expensive. i knew it would just be a matter of time before someone else comes out with something based on the same technology at a cheaper price...and here you have it. The difference between the two you that might notice is when you start adding more weight to the stabalizer...the modosteady would probably be abe to handle much more weight as opposed to this Hauge stabilizer. but the plus for hague is you have a choice for smaller cams at a more reasonable price. heck...if I knew where to buy the gimbal piece i would probably have tried building one myself...it's not that hard. but for the price of the Haugue verses what's out there...I think it would be worth it. I know people will probably slam my opinion in this regards but...it's mine.

I'm assuming that you have to balance the Camera everytime you attach it to the device. From the photos - it doesn't look like you can lock in your setings once the cameras is balanced. That might be a pain in the a$$ when you're out and about shooting.

Please give us a review and some footage when you get the chance !!!

I don't see why you'd have to re-balance it every time. All you have to do is balance it once, then mark the unit in such a way that the parts line up exactly as they did before. To mark it, you could use something as simple as a felt tiped pen, or a small dab of paint.
