i see.
i wonder how many people bought vegas pro off ebay for two or three hundred bucks only to realize it's the stripped version...probably more than a few.
I bought a brand new, sealed copy of Vegas Pro 8 (full, non-academic) for $300 shipped off of eBay. The trick is to make sure that the description specifically mentions what you are looking for, because if it does and you get a stripped down or lesser version, you can file a complaint with Paypal and get the whole situation resolved without a problem.
Just simple precaution is necessary.

good advice.
i think that's what i'm going to do. $300 is certainly more palatable than $600.
I own both Platinum 6 and Pro 8. I bought the B&H Pro CD for $129 because I already had manuals for Plat 6, use the DVD Architect from Plat 6 to author DVD's edited in Pro 8 and need unlimited video tracks for complex animation and spfx.
And to correct an earlier post by Rikki, BOTH Platinum and Pro have UNLIMITED audio tracks.
Platinum offers only 4 video tracks before you have to render out and import to a new project for another 4 video tracks (which can theoretically be done almost infinitely.) Same idea as collapsing tracks in audio recording to gain more working tracks.
Pro has unlimited video AND audio tracks. And has been noted elsewhere, the 32 bit plugins will NOT work on the 64 bit version of Pro so until they are written to address 64 bit processing, you'll have no plugins that work for Pro 64 bit. They will work with the 32 bit version of Plat or Pro.
Regardless of which version you buy or even how much you spend, Vegas is an incredibly deep, wide program that will return your investment so many times in so many ways, I wouldn't hesitate spending $1,000 for the Pro version.
Hope that helps.
I know enough to know what works ... at least until it blows up.Then I know it don't.
I picked up a sealed, boxed Vegas Pro 8 on eBay over the holidays for $150. The deals are there if you look for them, but as was said, be sure to read the fine print. There is one joker selling a tutorial, but he uses the title Vegas Pro 8 and never clearly mentions in the listing that it is nothing but a tutorial. I have complained to eBay many times about him, but he still gets his listings in. There are also truthful people selling the same version B&H did and will tell you clearly that it does not included DVDA or the AC3 encoder. If you just want a good editor, this can be a good way to go. Other members have used this version to upgrade to the full version for an additional $239, making your total cost around $350, which is still a pretty good deal.![]()
I have MSP and does 720P. I'm planning on picking up cineform to do pulldowns and 24p. Do i need to get vegas pro8 to do 1080P? Also vegas pro7 is cheaper nowadays. What are the cons for getting pro7. thanx
Thank you both sincerely for your replies. I'll try out VMSP 9. If it renders to 1080 24p then I'm OK.
Yes, it can do that. Read here too http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2008/1...ints-and-tips/
