dyke it right where the shoe cover plastic meets the camera and than do a second dyke of the plastic hinges, holding the cover over a trash can.

i don't have a 30, so i can't see if what i'm saying makes sense, but in my head it does.

i know i sure wouldn't let a couple pieces of plastic (henges) cause me a lot of grief.

When someone actually fixes this, can you let us know what you did? The stupid thing is REALLY in the way.

Well I'm not doing it unless for certain I can see a teardown online of the thing. Because I have no idea what could fall in there. I'm not risking it. I'm sure in time, a very pissed off person will anger-ishly rip it off then share their experience.

If you are going to cut if off, grip it with tweezers, upside down - so if anything falls, it'll fall out

Just thinking about a solution that could work . . .
Why not make yourself a small strip of plastic and glue that perpendicilar onto the two strips that dive into the cam. Use a very good glue. Than cut of the two strips, just above the new strip. This way the two strips will not fall into the camera compartment.

So far I'm just living with it. But I've been working the last 6 days so I haven't really thought about it lately. Then again I'll admit I am too chicken to test out cutting it off. I just don't wanna risk it

You know what, penguin is completely right. I was having the same discussion today and all the salt and flour used in a cheap fry pan will eventually ruin the pan. That's why people buy those expensive stainless steel or copper cookware pots. They are more fit for the abuse and conduct better.

I didn't see the milk or margarine go in! Remind me not to come to your house for mac and cheese! And the salt helps make the water come to a boil faster, so why would you wait to add it until right before the noodles? Cool vid, though.

Thats actually a myth. Theres a show on food network called good eats, and the host is somewhat of a scientist, and he gave proof as to why what you said is untrue. Oh, and the answer to your question is earlier in this thread (i posted it).

Talking Freedom At Last!!!

Okay guys I finally got so pissed at the thing I did it. Its done and I'm proud to announce we don't need to worry about parts falling into the camera. When you do remove MAKE SURE YOU ONLY CUT ONE SIDE. Otherwise it will fall in... You just need to pull it out after you've cut one side.
Here it is!

It was really easy actually, and that little bit has been chucked already
I did leave a small amount of the strands, so that it could still nestle back into the camera, and it stays put nicely but is indeed a bit harder to put back on. Oh well its permanently living at the bottom of my camera bag!

I thought the salt was used because it lowers the boiling point of water, so there would be no point to putting salt in AFTER the water had boiled...

so by your logic that it will damage the pan, you should put it in AFTER you add water but BEFORE it has come to boil.

But im not physicist or chemist so by all means, correct me if I am wrong!

Oh yea, nice video too!

OK Spider. Give us the step by step proceedure to remove it, including a tools list and how long it takes to get the job done. Do you feel almost anyone can handle the job, even if they aren't a mechanic or carpenter?

Can you rate how you feel now that the job is done:

1 - I feel very very bad about doing it.

10 - I'm feeling great now that I've done it. I'm ready to celebrate. Let's party on.

Spider.JM and Co.

Just bought the hv 30 also and had the same problem sliding the Rode Video Mic into the hot shoe. Just wondering if you have had any luck with a solution because I'm ready to take the mic back and get something else. By the way, I'm new to the forum so would appreciate any help.

The use or the hot shoe on top is a poor choise anyhow. You will still hear the hum of the tape drive. To get rid of that, you will need another place for the mic.

10 easily, for the fact its in the way and is just unnecessary! So Party On!

Tool list:
-Needle Nose Pliers (not required)
-Either Sharp clean Scissors or Exacto Knife

Basically try to stretch it away from the camera so that you have both strands away from each other, then progress to snipping ONE strand. Then just pull the cover out with the last strand STILL intact! Once its out, sever that other side, and make it so theres about 2mm left on the cover so that it will still fit back into the camera. Take the loop we just cut off and proudly throw it away whilst cussing at canon.

I wouldn't return it... I'm really happy with the VideoMic, its great quality.
Just fallow the steps I just announced with a touch of bravery. And you'll be as happy as I am
